About Our Gastric Bypass Surgeon

Robert Marvin, MD

 

 

Dr. Robert Marvin is a Board Certified General Surgeon practicing in Houston, Texas. He has additional certifications in Surgical Critical Care and is a member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons.

Dr. Marvin earned an undergraduate degree at the University of Southern California in 1985, where he graduated magna cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He went on to complete a MDCM at McGill University Medical School in Montreal in 1989. Dr. Marvin completed his surgical training at the University of Texas at San Antonio Health Science Center from 1989 to 1994. He was made Administrative Chief Resident in his final year. In 1996, he came to Houston where he completed a Fellowship in Surgical Critical Care. After his Fellowship, he was asked to stay on the faculty at the University of Texas at Houston Medical School where he attended in General and Trauma surgery from 1996 to 2000.

Dr. Marvin left the school to start a general surgery private practice in September 2000. He now attends patients at St. Luke's, the Methodist and Hermann-Memorial hospitals in the Texas Medical Center.

Dr. Marvin did additional training in advanced Bariatric Surgery in 1998 at Mount Sinai Medical School in New York City. He has had an active practice primarily in laparoscopic roux-en-y gastric bypass procedures since 2002. He also performs revision of bariatric procedures for selected patients who have had surgery to treat morbid obesity.

He currently is an Associate Surgeon with the Obesity Surgery Specialists of Houston.
